We talked in class about how white light is actually all of the colors of the rainbow being reflected at once (black is when the light from all of the colors is absorbed). We then did an experiment where we twirled paper with all of the colors in circles really fast and they reflected a white(ish) color back. Here are some videos. We had a great time at the annual turkey race on Friday the 16th. Here are some pictures and videos. We had an assembly with Brian Curry, an author and magician, in which he talked about his favorite books and did magic tricks to go along with them. One of our classmates even got to participate! A big thank you to the parents who helped out with the fall party! The food was wonderful and the we had a great time :) We've been learning more about figurative language in class and practicing with each type. Here are a couple of the activities.
The past couple of weeks we've been working on ordering, comparing, and converting fractions and decimals. This is always one of the more difficult units during the year as the kids have a difficult time to start with conceptualizing fractions. One of the first activities we did was to color in a fractional amount of a decimal grid, and then count the shaded parts to see the fraction's decimal equivalency. Here are some photos of that activity.
